Jim
Brunzell's success as a high jumper paid off when he entered
the world of professional wrestling. "Jumping" Jim
Brunzell leaped into the American Wrestling Association (AWA)
where he quickly found success teaming with Greg
Gagne. The two became known as "The High
Flyers" and defeated Blackjack Lanza and Bobby Duncum for the
AWA Tag Team Titles and held them for a year before Brunzell
left the AWA, forfeiting the titles.
Jim Brunzell wrestled in singles
competition in Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling (MACW),
winning the Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Title. He feuded
with the Iron Sheik and at one
point stole one of the Sheik's legendary pointed boots!
Brunzell returned to the AWA where
he renewed his partnership with Gagne. The High Flyers
won their second tag team championship, defeating the
East-West Connection (Adrian Adonis and Jesse "The Body"
Ventura). Brunzell and Gagne held the belts for nearly
two years before dropping them to Ken
Patera and Jerry Blackwell.
In 1985, Jim Brunzell entered the
WWF and formed a tag team with B Brian
Blair known as the Killer B's. Both men wrestled in yellow
and black striped tights and they looked fairly identical to
one another. When things got tight in the ring, both men
would don masks and confuse their opponents by switching
places (behind the referee's back and without a tag) so a
fresh man was in the ring. The Killer B's had a measure
of success in the WWF but were never able to win the WWF Tag
Team Titles
Brunzell's dropkick was legendary
in wrestling and he was able to achieve an unbelievably high
elevation with it.
